[...] BarCamp indicates that Philly is ready for next step, but will it happen? BarCamp attendance exploded this year to more than 250—including audience members that traveled from Florida to participate. We noted that topics were more diverse and more specific, delving into important topics, like the future of Philly’s technology community. “Philadelphia tech scene is ready for its coming out party.
Plain and simple: Philly needs tech jobs--jobs in general, really--but particularly innovators who view technology as utility to demystify itself and engage otherwise out-of-the-know persons. Technology has the potential to makes conditions more egalitarian, especially for education through visual and aural media. Even making cheesy iphone apps (one of the sessions offered at last year's Barcamp) spurs on tech creativity. I still familiarizing myself with social networking via digital, but as the existence of Barcamp stands testimony, the need to have a at least a rudimentary understanding of where tech digital and devices are going is invaluable. College students should get credit for attending something like this.

I love the idea of Philly being ready for the next step. I have been feeling that the city has been growing in a great way. New businesses and cultural events have been popping up all over. I hope it continues!

Barcamp Philly was a huge success in my mind, I had a blast sharing ideas with so many insanely smart people. Philly seems like it really has a movement going on, and being any small part of that gives you a complete sense of pride. Even as someone from the outside!
