Gabriel Weinberg’s DuckDuckGo search engine has officially partnered with Wolfram|Alpha, according to duel posts on Wolfram’s blog and Weinberg’s personal blog. DDG will include Wolfram’s results into its search results and maintain Wolfram’s Perl binding. Thing’s are getting’ serious for the Valley Forge company. If Google isn’t worried, we’re wondering about that Duck.com redirect to Google, and owned by Google Inc., pointed out by TheNextWeb. Oh, and no biggie, but Portfolio covered the search engine on Monday.
The University City Science Center announced Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Commerce has awarded it a $1 million grant for its QED proof-of-concept program for life science technologies.

Viridity Energy has announced that it is working with Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals to optimize the campus’s energy consumption using Viridity’s VPower software. It also announced yesterday that it will be working with the federal government to provide the same service to federal and military facilities with Defense Logistics Agency Energy.
Portfolio has the why’s on Invite Media’s sale to Google, which co-founder and COO Zach Weinberg shared at the Bloomberg Empowered Entrepreneur conference last week. “Everyone’s got a number,” Weinberg said. “Anyone who tells you it’s not about the money is not being truthful.”
The Business Journal reports that AgileSwitch, a Philly-based company that creates plug-and-play IGBT power converter switches for solar inverters, wind turbines, and more, received $50,000 in funding from Ben Franklin Technology Partners and netted its first customer.
