Mongo Philly — 9:00 AM

Mongo Philly is a one-day conference dedicated to MongoDB, the leading open source, non-relational database. The conference will feature sessions on schema design, indexing, administration, replication, sharding, and more. The event is sponsored by 10gen, the company that develops and supports the database. Data and Journalism Training — 9:00 AM

The event features the Metropolitan Philadelphia Indicators Project (MPIP), the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Alfred Lubrano and Dylan Purcell, and Sabrina Rubin Erdley of Rolling Stone. We’ll see a presentation from MPIP (http://mpip.temple.edu/), which is a gigantic collection of data concerning the Greater Philadelphia region. The MPIP folks will teach everyone how to use their MetroPhilaMapper, so journalists can find specific information, create maps and craft strongly-supported journalism. 9AM – 12:30 PM @ Gladfelter Hall 336, 1115 W. What is Cloud Computing and why should nonprofits care? — 12:00 PM

An explanation and overview of cloud computing that makes sense to nonprofit leaders. We will explore the various types of cloud computing and the advantages it can offer for nonprofit organizations. Music Technology Research @ Drexel — 2:00 PM

At MET-lab, we are building new tools for creating, understanding, and interacting with music. The event will feature a series of short presentations by current MET-lab members followed by an open house with hands-on demos of our current projects. Featured projects include dancing and piano-playing robots, an electronically-transformed acoustic piano and new iPhone and iPad musical instruments. Freedom Rings Kickoff — 3:00 PM

Freedom Rings is a consortium of public and private partners dedicated to increasing internet access and literacy to low-income Philadelphians. Free computer use, internet access and training will be offered through Freedom Rings Computing Centers and Training Programs that will being to be rolled out. This event will offer more details and specifics about the initiative, with leadership from the City of Philadelphia and the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Council. Augmented Reality Check: Seeing the Future Now — 6:00 PM

What is Augmented Reality and what will an augmented future look like? Learn more from panel of experts that includes cutting-edge artists, software developers, gaming specialists, sociologists and social historians. Following the panel discussion, attendees will reassemble outdoors for an interactive demonstration and virtual art tour that blurs the line between the real and the virtual. Augmented Reality, or AR, uses free smart phone apps that overlay 3-D images and information on top of real-time screen visuals as seen through the smart phone camera lens. The walking tour and demonstration will include site-specific AR content developed by artists to interact with locations and landmarks along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Office Space Printer Smash with The Hacktory — 6:00 PM

Finally, a chance to take your aggression out on that @#*^% printer! Join us in helping our sponsor Nonprofit Technology Resources creatively disassemble some printers for recycling.
