Hey, it’s National Small Business Week, so celebrate your local startup community. But as Inky’s Mike Armstong notes, the national Small Business Person of the Year won’t be from Philly.
Ben Franklin Technology Partners has invested $2 million in 10 early-stage companies, including AboutOne (subscription-based household information data repository), ClickEquations, Green Power Technologies (WiFi-controlled smartplug to eliminate power waste), and regular Startup Roundup company vcopius, among others.

Even the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is moving into startups, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal. A biotech spinoff, Vascular Magnetics, is trying to commercialize a process to treat blocked arteries in partnership with the University City Science Center’s QED program.
StartupCorps is working with 70 high school students in Philadelphia, teaching them about entrepreneurship and helping them to launch a company while still in school, the Inquirer reports.
TicketLeap is now allowing event organizers to charge for tickets at the door, using a USB card swipe, it has created a ticket widget for promotion, and an official API for use on other websites.

Monetate has announced that it has bee named Technology Startup of the Year by the Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies.
SearchEngineWatch wonders if Google’s testing of new search result layouts is being inspired by Valley Forge’s DuckDuckGo.
Mashable offers Viddler as a strong business alternative to YouTube. On that note, Viddler customer Engadget has won a Webby for its video podcast.
Local filmmaker Zach Weddington is, uh, starting-up donations for his film on the Amiga computer, “Viva Amiga,” Geekadelphia reports.
