The first thing you notice about the new SEPTA System Status page that went live on Friday is that there are a lot of service advisories.

The bright side is that the updated page now integrates vehicle locations and has an icon to indicate weather-related delays so if your train or bus is late, at least you know why.

You wouldn’t know it based on the weather Philly has experienced this winter, but there is also promise of animated snowflakes in the future, should there ever be another Snowpocalypse, SEPTA Director of Emerging and Specialty Technology Michael Zaleski told Technically Philly.

The System Status page follows on the heels of the TransitView app as the next step in SEPTA’s effort to make real-time transit data openly available to transit riders across bus, trolley, and regional rail lines. TransitView, which was released in June 2011, is integrated in the System Status page, so there is some debate about whether to decommission the app, Zaleski told Technically Philly.

In the meantime, SEPTA riders with internet connections now have even more real-time transit info available at their fingertips.
