In which we link out to the tech news from Philly and elsewhere (when it matters) that slips through the cracks and make it way fun. See others here.

Wilmington, Del.-based Web marketing and design firm the Archer Group is using new-age computer-user tracking systems to see what you’re looking at. That’s the same Delaware company that recently helped Wawa brand its products on Facebook.

As the Web has matured and its users have too, the group’s “Eye-tracking Usability Lab” is meant to give its designers insight into how computer users, with years of Internet-browsing behind them, are digesting the Web today, as Delaware Online reported. [Full Disclosure: Sean Blanda loves Delaware].

It’s what you’ve heard before: freaky pinpoint infrared sensors that follow eye movements as they bounce from whatever the tester spots. Get the deets and what Archer is doing with the work at the full story.

After the jump, Bussiness Week reports that one of one of our own seed-stage investment firms is saving venture capital, the city’s emergency radio system with Motorola isn’t “reliable” and seven other tech stories you need to read — including our best read story of the week.

It’s great to be an Apple user in Philadelphia.

There’s IndyHall Labs‘ selection of Mac apps, iSepta‘s iPhone offering, and of course, independent Apple specialists Bundy Computer and Springboard Media based in Center City and Center City West, respectively.

University City-based software development firm The Neat Company is increasing its presence on that list.

On Monday, the company announced NeatDesk For Mac, its automatic document feed (ADF) scanner with an Apple version of its popular NeatWorks scanning software, according to a press release. Now Apple-heads, too, can scan receipts, business cards and documents using Neat’s faster, yet more expensive, software and scanning system.

“Basically, it can scan any type of document, receipts, business cards, and other documents into a digital format using OCR and patented parsing technology that identifies different types of data on different documents,” Director of Marketing Jeff Vogel said.

Events highlights for the week of April 6 – April 12, 2009

calendarThis week, there’s a ton of good stuff happening in the community, all listed on our events calendar. On Monday, Refresh Philly is taking a break from its lecture modus operandi to kick back with some beers at National Mechanics. It could be a great way to network with some of the city’s most innovative brains.

Net Tuesday Philly will be focused on GIS and maps this month, and have invited Robert Cheetham, founder and president of Avencia, a No Libs-based geographic software design company that works often with the public sector. Learn how GIS can help your non-profit. And if you’re for-profit, sneak in anyway. You’ll at least be able to ask someone how to work that darned GPS you’ve been toting around.

Brian Frantz and Jon Graves of Center City West-based The Neat Co. will be talking clean code at the Foundation Series Workshop Wednesday night, and Thursday has a burgeoning NJ and Philly Tech meetup. Be there. And by “there,” we mean at every single event.

Events listed in our highlights are free to attend. Please check our Events calendar for more information and read more after the jump.
