Event Highlights: January 3rd – 9th, 2011

Happy New Year, Philadelphia. Surely you enjoyed those great Penns Landing Fireworks at 6 p.m. on New Years Eve and went promptly to bed. Right?

While the calendar says it’s the New Year, Philly’s technology community has yet to wake up. We only have two events on the docket this week, so consider it a slow warm up for 2011.

This week, NetSquared connects non-profits with news and Hive76 opens up for some quality time.

Let’s Make Media!: Collaborations between Nonprofits and Community Media Outlets - Join representatives from WHYY’s Newsworks and Philly Community Access Media (PhillyCAM) to chat about how non-profits can produce their own media. Panelists will show off examples of non-profit media while offering tips. Take it from us, it’s harder than it looks. Center City. 6:00 p.m.

Hive76 Open House – Every Wednesday, the kind folks at Hive76 open up their doors to invite newbies into the Spring Garden hacker space. We suggest stopping by to see the space while snagging some pizza. Spring Garden. 8:00 p.m.

Event Highlights: December 6th – 13th, 2010

The funny thing about the upcoming holidays is that all of Philadelphia tries to pack in their events in first few weeks of December leaving us with a jam packed events calendar. Luckily, we comb through all of the tech listings to pluck out the gems so you dont have to.

This week, save the world with social media, build robots at Hive76 and drink with some entrepreneurial types.

Hope you had a happy Memorial Day, Philadelphia.

Clean up your grill and unpack the car from your trip to the shore, because it’s time to get back to attending your favorite tech events.

This week, let the folks at Net Tuesday help you use Facebook for more than stalking ex-girlfriends, speed read before the UX Book Club and pow-wow about game development with the local IGDA chapter.

Event Highlights for May 17-23, 2010

We like to talk about our community being a growing, developing and diverse collection of smart people who involve themselves with technology and innovation one way or another.

This week’s free events make that seem apparent.

Though, the developers’ happy hour meetup of the Build Guild has been temporarily shelved, Wednesday is looking busy and varied.

First, out in the ‘burbs, Philly.net is hosting a panel discussion on the battle between all those browsers out there and what it means for how we all use the interwebs.

Later that night in town, Philly Startup Leaders is hosting one of their always sensational pitch blitzes Wednesday night, and, yes, as part of our monthly meetup schedule, the same night, we’ll be at Dark Horse to hear from you.

Then on Saturday, the Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby will bring out all the gear heads who’ve been tinkering on their strange and always artistic human-powered vehicles — you know, bicycles with an even more interesting look.

Web developers, entrepreneurs and the DIY crowd are all satiated, and that’s not all for the week.

No Cinco De Mayo this week to muck up your plans to get some networking done on Wednesday night.

Actually, even if you plan on drinking Wednesday, Tuesday has quite a few events, and the rest of the week is pretty full, too.

Tuesday, catch the return of Philadelphia Standards Organization or meet out in the ‘burbs with Agile Philly. And yes, Wednesday’s got plenty to offer as well: check in with May’s Philly ALT.NET meeting for an overview of Microsoft Azure and more.

Events Highlights for May 3-9, 2010

Gosh, it was easy to get caught up with this weekend’s summer vibe. We BBQ’d, partied on a boat and danced the night away. And we still had time to dig the Broad Street Run.

But for all the fun, we just couldn’t stop thinking about the events on our calendar this week. They’re light, but that’s why we like ‘em. Kick it this week with some classic local technology groups and let’s make it through May gently, mmmkay? Net Tuesday celebrates its two-year anniversary, PhillyCHI lets loose with tech quizzo and the hard-workers at UArts show off their semester’s work in Fishtown. Kick it.

Event Highlights for April 26-May 2, 2010

You can’t complain about the weather after this weekend. It was beautiful. So after today and tomorrow, as this morning’s showers taper off, we should see a return to a comfortable spring.

Yes, we realize that our roundup is becoming a weather report. Truth is, meteorology might have been a first calling if not for tech. With that off our minds, there shouldn’t be too much argument about hitting up some of the great events this week.

On Tuesday, designers will have a field day. There’s at least three events based on Web design around the city. Wednesday, Startup Leaders‘ hosts its seventh Entrepreneurs Unplugged. Saturday, MarketingCamp makes its first appearance in the city, a chance for marketers to talk shop about innovative new approaches to the topic. Local ad firm Red Tettemer keynotes.
