Callowhill GIS firm Azavea has secured a $90,000 grant to create an open source tree mapping database to keep record of trees in Philadelphia with the help of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to support the city’s volunteer tree care community.

The technology will be vetted for use in other cities. TicketLeap was named #7 on the Entrepreneurs Forum’s Philadelphia 100. IT firm Cognis IT made #14, eZanga was listed at #17, SEER Interactive landed at #62. As Forum director Dan Ross told us last week, about 30 percent of the top 100 were in information technology.
