Philadelphia, you’re a city of routine, and we like that about you.

Even when the sun is shining and thoughts are drifting toward lounging at the Jersey shore, you aren’t afraid to grab a few drinks and stick to your meetup schedule.

Every event on our calendar this week is part of a monthly series, and most involve beer.

On Tuesday, grab a brew with Philly.rb at their pub night. We hear that they specifically hit on people using Ruby puns. And by “hear” we mean “hope.” The next day, IdeaBlob hosts BlobLive, its monthly open mic for entrepreneurs. Step on up and give an elevator pitch to complete strangers.

To close out the week, Philly Mapping and GIS host “Mappy Hour.” Talk cartography and get in on the group’s open source map project at a local watering hole.

All events listed on the event calendar are free to attend. Be sure to check our complete calendar for more information, or follow us past the jump.

Tuesday, July 21: Like they do every month, the Philly Ruby User Group will be grabbing some brews and talking Ruby, possibly on Rails. This week they set up shop at T.A. Flannery’s Saloon. While we’ve never been, being a Saloon, we assume that grown men can challenge other men to duels in the street outside. You know, like Hamilton. So bring your knowledge of databases and a revolver. On second thought, leave the revolver at home. 6:00 p.m. Rittenhouse. DETAILS. [view more events]

Wednesday, July 22: Bloblive is described by its creators as “open-mic night for entrepreneurs.” Attendees get a few minutes to stand up in front of attendees and give their best elevator pitch to the room typically eliciting advice and support from their peers. Bonus points if you can give your elevator pitch in the form of a short rap song. Bonus points from us anyway. 7:30 p.m. Art Museum Area. RSVP. [view more events]

Thursday, July 23: Philly Mapping and GIS has its monthly “Mappy Hour,” a social gathering for all those interesed in the group’s open source map project. The group is taking a break from mapping University City to kick back a few beers and welcome new members. Just don’t show up late claiming you “couldn’t find the place.” 6:30 p.m. Center City. RSVP. [view more events]

If you have an event that you think we should be listing, email us. We promise that no email falls in to the contact form netherworld.

Tuesday, June 30: SEO Grail meets Tuesday as well, with local web developer Seth Goldstein on point. Brown. 5:00 p.m. University City. RSVP. You were bored, confused, even lost without a daily dose of tech goings-on.

Think of it as a savings account for all the cool stuff going on this week. You didn’t want to go out in that rain, anyway.

On Monday, hit up Philly.rb‘s Pub Night and don’t even say you’re sorry that you once were down with Python. Can’t we all just get along? Central NJ Drupal will host an info session Tuesday to help you get involved with the Project. We call it the Project with a capital P because damn if they ain’t been working hard. Maybe it’s time to throw in your two cents.

Wednesday, Mike Welsh of Newgrounds.com and ActionScript coder for Xbox Live Arcade’s best-seller Castle Crashers will lead Philadelphia Flash Users Group‘s discussion on AS3 game development. We never understood why Super Mario went 3D anyway, and we think Mike would agree.

We hate when this happens: a dozen blocks West, Philly Startup Leaders will host a second can’t-be-missed Wednesday night event. Neat Company co-founder Rafi Spero will give his “Unplugged” presentation on the blood, sweat, tears and scanners that went into the company’s successful receipt organization software.

Last but not least, PhillyCHI will host a happy hour to celebrate all things human-computer interaction. Why a happy hour? Because it’s 5 o’clock and someone’s got a bad UI somewhere, that’s why. More details on all of these events after the jump.

All events listed on the event calendar are free to attend. Be sure to check our complete calendar for more information, or follow us past the jump.

Monday, June 15: Philly’s Ruby enthusiasts Philly.rb will meet over drinks to chat about their beloved scripting language. # Head to Center City for a good time with Ruby, Rails and more. puts “And drink one for us, too.” end 6:00 p.m. Center City. RSVP. [view more events]

Tuesday, June 16: Not sure how to get down with the Drupal project? The Central New Jersey Drupal meetup group will give the deets on how to get involved with the Drupal community Tuesday night in Princeton. Whether you’re a newb or a pro, there’s room for all. Plus, AlexUA and Jody from Zivtech will give some special tutorials on contributing to the core Drupal patch. 6:30 p.m. Princeton, New Jersey. RSVP. [view more events]

Wednesday, June 17th: Is new-fangled “three-dimensional” gaming just totally not your style? Philadelphia Flash Users Group will host a discussion on ActionScript3 Game Development. Newgrounds.com’s Mike Welsh (and my old buddy from the murky, old school depths of Internet Relay Chat) will give some expertise from his experience with the Flash-based portal and the best-selling Xbox Live Arcade game Castle Crashers. 6:30 p.m. Old City. RSVP. [view more events]

Wednesday, June 17th: Also not to be missed Wednesday, Philly Startup Leaders will host the next installment of its Entrepreneurs Unplugged series, and this week Rafi Spero of Neat Company will share the struggles, successes, heartbreak and eureka-moments of one of Philly’s most successful software startups. It’ll be like Nirvana Unplugged without the heroin. 7:00 p.m. Center City. RSVP. [view more events]

Thursday, June 18th: Nothing goes together like summertime and design, so PhillyCHI will host its monthly happy hour to mix the two like vodka and cranberry. Head to Kildare’s in King of Prussia and don’t forget your user interface face. 6:00 p.m. King of Prussia. RSVP. [view more events]

Every Monday morning, Technically Philly will preview the best free tech events in Philadelphia and the surrounding region. See others here. Check our comprehensive events calendar here.

Ready to take a road trip to a magical city that will give you easy access to multimillionaires, let you hook up with people to start the next great independent gaming studio and allow you to listen to a VP at AT&T talk about mobile media?

Well, save your SEPTA tokens, as Philly provides all of that and more this week.

First up is First Round Capitol’s office hours at the World Cafe Live. The event is an informal gathering to discuss all things startup with one of the region’s most well known venture capital firms and is modeled after a college professor’s office hours. If you are up for a short walk, stroll on over to the Cira Center afterward to PANMA’s Mobile Monday. There, listen to a panel stacked with talent discuss Mobile Marketing and Advertising.

If mobile isn’t your thing, make sure you can knock back a few brews with Phillyrb, the city’s Rails user group. We hear if you buy them a few they’ll talk about regular expression syntax for hours.

Continuing University City’s status as center of the tech event universe this week, PANMA is getting together at the Science Center to talk about SEO in 2009, which, we assume, does not involve the <blink> tag.

And lastly, Philly’s game developers are getting together at the Comcast Center to introduce themselves and talk about the future of the group.

All events listed on the event calendar are free to attend. Be sure to check our complete calendar for more information, or follow us past the jump.

Monday, May 18th: Conshohocken-based First Round Capitol is holding “office hours,” a casual gathering geared toward would-be CEOs who are curious about entrepreneurship. If you have even thought starting your own business, we suggest you hop on the El and meet a group who knows startups as well as any other. Plus, First Round brags that they had 50-60 attendees at the other cities they tried this event, so lets show them some hometown love at World Cafe Live. And, while you are there, compliment them on their awesome Christmas card. 3 p.m. University City. RSVP. [view more events]

Monday, May 18th: The registration page says it’s sold out, but we’d be willing to bet that a few of the 350 registrants don’t show up to Mobile Monday. If you are into mobile try to sneak in the Cira Center, as PhindMe’s CEO and a VP at AT&T will be on a panel discussing mobile marking and advertising. Even if you couldn’t care less about marketing, there will be a table for job seekers to talk with hiring companies. Wow, companies hiring people is so 2008. 5:30 p.m. University City. RSVP. [view more events]

Monday, May 18th: Formally Philly on Rails, Phillyrb is having a social gathering at T.A. Flannery’s Saloon. Grab a few beers and get acquainted with your fellow Web app developers in a relaxed atmosphere and talk about … well I seem to have misplaced my “Beginning Ruby” book that I never read. 6:00 p.m. Center City West. RSVP. [view more events]

Wednesday, May 20th: No one quite knows how Google’s magic algorithm works, but one thing is for sure: the tactics that worked two years ago probably could use some updating. Join PANMA and SEO expert Wil Reynolds for a talk about the new ways to bump up your page rank. Oh, and did we mention that the event (like every one on TP’s calendar) is free, yet pizza will be served? 6:30 p.m. University City. RSVP. [view more events]

Saturday, May 26th: Those who managed to make it out to Ignite saw Chris Jurney’s fascinating presentation about video game AI. We can only hope that Saturday’s meeting is half as cool as the region’s game developers get together at the Comcast Building. The event looks to be mostly a social one, containing introductions and discussing on the future schedule of the group. With the aforementioned Ignite presentation as well as Joystiq’s HQ in Fishtown, Philly could start to make some noise in the video game sphere. 2:00 p.m. Center City West. RSVP. [view more events]

Every Monday morning, Technically Philly will preview the best free tech events in Philadelphia and the surrounding region. See others here. Check our comprehensive events calendar here.
